Lately I've been trying to teach Katy about cousins. That Jake, Hillary, Jason, Karli, Emily and Abby are her friends, but also her cousins. So last night the two of us went to pick up Little Caesar's pizza (yum!) as a little girls trip out, and there were two little girls (about age 5 or 6) playing with the gumball machine. They were with a white woman from their church, but they were African American. So Katy immediately bonds with other kids and starts talking about wanting a "ball" from the machine while the girls tried to reach up the drop shoot and get one out. They chatted girl talk while I waited in line, and Katy showed off the sparkles on her pink shirt. I didn't even know she cared! Then it was time for her new friends to leave and she said, "My cousins!" Everyone in the place busted out laughing! Their church lady said, "Sure, your cousins from a distant part of the family."

The Katy adventure continued because she wanted to be lifted up to see over the counter when it was my turn to pay. She saw a picture of a little round pizza and identified it. Of course. We're Little Caesar alumni. Then the handed me the boxes for our pizza and crazy bread and Katy said, "Wow! Big pizza! I eat this one!" as she pointed to the crazy bread. Everyone laughed again. It's much more fun being the mother of the fun, cute kid versus the screaming, tantrum kid. Since Katy didn't have a nap for the day, I guess I gambled and won!

When we got home we spread out a blanket and had a pizza party picnic. Allen just crawled around on the blanket holding crazy bread and looking pleased with himself. I should have taken pictures but my fingers were greasy. He had a mouth stuffed full of food and occasionally he sauntered over to Katy's sippy cup of orange carbonated soda and stole a drink. Watching him crawl from behind is so cute, especially when he goes fast and his caboose is swinging from side to side.

Easter revisited and overview of the past two weeks:

Laura & Mike’s gang, plus Keith, Sarah, Amy and Uncle John all trooped into town for Easter-palooza 2008. I never posted about it and I’m trying to catch my blog up. Katy was very serious about finding eggs at first, but when her little bunny basket was full, we couldn’t seem to convince her that it was ok to dump it out and re-fill it. Then we gave her Allen’s turtle basket to see if that would work. She seemed happier to just eat the candy at that point. Allen was crawling around in Mom’s yard while Emily ran around collecting all the goodies on behalf of everyone else. Abby was also a little slow on the draw. It's going to be a while I guess until someone gets as fast as Emily. They were all so cute together! It doesn’t seem like that long ago that we were making Sarah & Amy hunt for the eggs.

Later we went over to Jerry and Kathy’s house for some more Easter fun. The Easter Bunny dropped eggs in their back yard and this time the older kids fast about finding them. Anything in plain view was left for Katybird, while Allen sat in the grass holding his turtle. Hilarious!!

Seems like a lot has happened since Easter, but I guess it’s only been a month. This past weekend I took the kids to join Laura’s family and Dad at a rented cottage for the weekend. It was one of those trial timeshare things and we had a lot of fun. There was a new indoor water park and everything! We played at the arcade without actually putting quarters in because the kids didn’t care if they were really playing a game, or not. We visited the ducks and found the mean geese. Last year one “bot” Emily. We played in the pool and with miniature golf. It was a huge success!

I’m trying to remember some Katy-isms from the past few weeks. Hmmm…

**“Mommy, we have same eyes. Black, black, white, white.” She was pointing out that our pupils are both black, and the outer part is white for both of us. She seemed very pleased to see that we have the same eyes, even though hers are brown and mine are greenish blue. CUTE!

**After I read a book to Katy, she takes it and says, “My turn. I read it.” Then she pretty much does, going by memory. Sound effects and all.

**Tonight Peter came home from work and Katy climbed up on his lap and hugged him. Then she said, “Dad, I’m proud of you. You home from work.” HAHAHAHA!

**Katy is learning her full name, but the last name seems to trip her up a bit. She leaves out the “d”.

Allen is so close to walking, but other than the fact that he can let go while standing for just a second, he hasn’t made much progress. He can eat just about any food now. I can’t believe he’s almost one year old. Pretty soon we’ll be headed in for his one year check-up and I can see just how many pounds I’ve been lugging all around town. I made Peter feel my big muscles from toting Allen all weekend. Big Juice says “da da da da” but I’m not positive that we can give him credit for saying an official “dada” for Peter. Allen almost fell asleep in the Lazy River this past weekend at the water park. He was so buoyant! I think he and Katy are both getting swim lessons this summer.

These are pics of the kids from a trip to the park with Peter. You can look closely and see that Katy is skipping...with both feet off the ground! A couple weeks ago we played in the bluebonnets. I couldn’t find anyone at the last minute to be our photographer and my tripod was broken, so I had to ghetto-mount my camera onto my tripod with strapping tape. That was a proud moment. Either way, we got some cute ones.

Last week we had a picnic in the backyard while Peter was at a baseball game. We dropped him off and picked up some yummy Chicken Express, and then ate on a blanket in the grass. The weather has been too nice to not enjoy. Soon enough it will be nasty humid & hot. Then Katy and Allen played on the swing set…fun!

Sometimes Katy puts her babies to bed…

This past week I ran into my friends Holly, Joy & Amy F. at the mall and we let the kiddos play at the Food Court playland. Katy loved the unexpected play date with Kaitlyn & Ava!! And Allen loved crawling all thru the tunnels and making me think he was lost. Then we went to a late afternoon showing of “Horton Hears a Who” at the theatre. It was only Katy’s second movie experience and she 100% absorbed it all. She had a blast! I think the cutest thing was that she kept the ring pop on her hand the entire time. Allen stayed home with my Mom for that one because he's not quite ready for the theatre experience.

And the week before last Katy was invited to her friend Maggie’s 3rd birthday party at the park. They had McDonald’s happy meals and treat bags, plus colorful helium balloons to take home. Even Allen got a treat bag! They played on all the fun park equipment and ate birthday cupcakes. Allen liked that part the best! Katy didn’t mind them, either. We celebrated Peter’s birthday on Monday night and Katy is still asking for more birthday cake.

OK, I think that gets me mostly caught up for now. Hopefully I can stop procrastinating with these mega-posts and get back to more regular posts. I know I'm forgetting lots of cute things the nuggets are doing and saying.

Well, I know I haven't posted about Easter yet but I just had to put these delicious photos of Allen at 10 months on here. He looks good enough to eat! And I won't be able to take nakey pictures of him for much longer so I decided to do it while I can.

On a side note, we just attended a birthday party for one of Katy's friends today and she had a total blast! Katy keeps insisting it's her birthday, and she gets mad when I tell her that Daddy's is next and then Baby Allen. I want to do something for Allen's big ONE but I'm not sure what. If it involves cleaning my house, it may not ever happen!
