I am backdating this entry to January 31st, but really I’m creating it on February 9th. That’s right…I’ve been in blog rehab. I had to take a month off and remind myself that the world of my children will still turn, even if I’m not blogging it. Painful but necessary. I just had a lot to do and didn’t want to take time off from the kids so the blog had to suffer. At the end of December I photographed three different family shoots and a small wedding so there were lots of late nights with editing and all that good stuff. So….here was our January in a nutshell.
We started out the month with Katy moving up from church nursery to join the Primary program. She is now a Sunbeam in the three and four year old class and she loves it! For her first Sunday she walked Allen to his first nursery class without her. Then she hugged and kissed her teacher, and went to her big girl class. We have gotten tons of compliments about how great she’s doing in there, plus Juan and Kourtney are her teachers so she loves it! Weekly stickers and heart stamps, plus learning new songs – so cool. And Allen gets to have his snack time and bubble time so he’s a happy camper, too!
Here he is enjoying a bubble bath, which he doesn’t get very often. It’s too messy because he’s a splasher. We would be scraping bubbles off the ceiling every night. Plus he eats the bubbles. We visited Julia’s little family and had a fun play date at their home. Wagon rides, swinging and fun kids to play with – what more could we ask for?
Peter took Katy to a local basketball game and they stayed through both the men and women’s teams. He didn’t think she would enjoy that much but she loved every minute. Apparently she was a big hit and one woman told her she looked like Shirley Temple.
Katy is very conscious that her birthday isn’t until “Julive” so she announced one day that it must be Chloe’s birthday, the only member of the family whose real birth date I don’t know. Meow. We celebrated by letting Katy help me make a VERY pink cake that was actually so gross in color that I had a hard time eating it. I managed to suffer through…somehow. Here are some cute random pics from church and just messing around. Katy and Allen are fabulous models when they're in the mood for it.

For a little something different, I loaded up the kids and headed to Delma’s neck of the woods for a play date and reunion with a childhood friend. It started out a little patchy because Baby Requay bumped her head and we had to hang out at the ER for a while. After that we headed over to their inflatable bounce place and waited for Renee and her son Halsey to show up. It was kind of crazy because we had Big Juice running all over the place.
Delma took him up and down and through everything for me while I shot photos, of course. Then we all stopped off at Mickey D’s for some dinner and a chat. Lots of fun! I have always known that I’ve been blessed with AMAZING friends ALL my life.
Somewhere in the middle of the month Allen had his first real hair cut from a professional. Well, it may be his last. He absolutely hated it. I came armed with a firm resolve to hold him still and also with suckers.
We had to wait a bit so we strolled through the pet shop next door. That was supposed to be the reward but oh well. Then it was time for Allen’s big cut. Wait, that was a few months ago – ha ha! This was just a hair cut. He started out looking a little suspicious.
The lady had three kids so she was pretty tough. He kicked, screamed, hated the buzzing sound of the clippers, and didn’t even lick his sucker while it was going on. Katy stood by and gave the appropriate sympathy. In the end he had a very red face and a sucker full of hair.
Poor little man. But he looked so much older and has received lots of compliments. It’s just a matter of time until women are slipping room keys into his pocket.
Here are some pics from one of our trips to the back yard swing set. The kids love being outside, and Allen asks for it by name. Their latest obsession is to ask constantly for Icy Pops, those frozen Kool-Aid things that you have to cut the tops from to open. Katy will announce that she’s hot and sweaty so she needs one. I usually give in when they are outside getting hot and sweaty. Plus she’ll wear her patch for me if I give her one and let her pick the color.
Allen looks good enough to eat when he’s in footie pajamas but this particular one has developed holes in the toes and he cracks up every time he sees his own piggy toes wiggling out!
Another cute piece of Allen clothing is this t-shirt we just had to buy. It shows how different vehicles can show your personality. I chalked him up as a monster truck which had the description of "I break things." I then asked Allen to point to the vehicle that he thought described himself. HAHAHAHAHA!!! The police car says, "I'm in charge."
This is the first time he wore the shirt and he is also modeling a cake that Katy helped to make. She is really into baking and cooking…what a helper.
Peter won our local football pick from this season, and it’s the third time he’s done it. There were even more people competing this year so I’m pretty proud of him. Jerry and Kathy hosted the party again where Peter accepted his award and the gift certificate to Cheddar’s, plus some yummy Bluebell ice cream. What a champ!
Our local 4-H club put on a petting zoo so even though it was really cold, we dragged Mom and Gramma out for some animal adventures. After all that they were rewarded with some free hot dogs and watered-down hot chocolate. Katy wouldn’t eat the hot dog because it had black stuff on it (from the grill) so she just ate the bun. Allen threw down his bun and chomped on just the dog…go figure.

Mom and Gramma also took Katy to see the movie Hotel for Dogs. She was appropriately dressed in a dog shirt and they had a total blast! She was quoting the funny parts to me when they arrived home. Mom even let her buy the popcorn since she can eat a large bag almost by herself.
Katy also had an eye appointment and FINALLY got some good reviews for her patching. I thought it was really not working but now her vision is 20/50, apparently the best it’s ever been. If Allen will just stop mangling her glasses I can let her wear them more often. Right now it’s just to school and church. After the appointment we drove over to Dad’s place and did some more Mickey D’s. We are a sucker for those indoor playlands!
Allen has been so snuggly cute lately because he likes silky little baby blankets and will climb up and snuggle on us when he has one. We now tuck him into his crib with one at nap time and bed time. If he’s tired he’ll find one and carry it over to let us know he’s ready for a nap.
For Christmas Mom and Uncle John gave me the four Twilight series books. I finally let myself read them and it only took about four days. They were awesome! I can see why everyone raved. Now I want to check out the movie that just came out for the first book.
And finally, I’m happy to report that Peter and I have had several date nights lately because Warren and Marjean are coming over on Friday nights and sitting on the nuggets for us – yay! We do movies and dinner or grocery shopping or whatever and it’s fabulous!
Drum roll, please…..
Katy-isms:
*”I’m drinking milk to get a strong bum!”
*”big girl room” = living room
*”gag gummit” = dadgummit
*A tv show had a love scene and Katy walked in saying, “Oh, they’re loving each other…awwww!”
*Katy’s learning a new church song that talks about Heavenly Father’s beautiful plan, but she calls it a beautiful plant.
*”Gramma Grape” = Grandma Great
*Playing with Allen and told him, “You’re the tiniest baby – you can’t be the teacher.”
*”I’m pairing your elbow” means “repairing”
*After I opened Allen’s diaper she said, “Just pee-pee’s – his bum sure is lucky!”
*I told Katy she was going to grow wings and a beak since she eats so much chicken (bok bok) and she believed me when we pulled up to the drive-thru window. She wouldn’t eat the chicken until I assured her I was just kidding.
*Peter told Katy she needed to brush her teeth to get rid of the germs and bacteria. She obsessed about that, even dreamed about it and is now always excited about getting some “sparkling” clean teeth.
*We passed a man riding a horse on the side of the road and I pointed him out to the kids. Katy said, “Yeah, a black man is riding the horse.” I STILL do not know how she knew that. We have never mentioned skin color or really anything like who is fat or who is skinny. It’s a mystery to me.
*She asks for meat balls but really means to say malt balls
*”tummy egg” = tummy ache
*She said her regular prayers and then added a second prayer stating, “I can’t sleep…it’s not working. Can you please help me?”
*Trying to convince me to stay in her bed one night she said, “You’re sick. You need to sleep with me. Lay down.”
*One night after Warren and Marjean put her to sleep she came into my room and felt my hair. She told me in the morning that Grammy and Papa had been sleeping in my bed (so she thought) but that she felt my hair to be sure it was me.
*Lots of Disney shows use the word “idiot” and Katy notices every time and tattles to us. She is learning about not-nice words.
*One of her toys was repeating something, waiting for her to push a button. She got annoyed after a bit and told the toy, “Stop saying that! I know, I know, lady!”
Allen-isms:
*”bog” = frog
*”na-nana” = banana
*bike
*chair
*bye bye
